FreeBSD runs just fine on the Xybernaut IV TC Mobile Assistant. Here are some hints on how to make it work on your system, relative to FreeBSD 4.6. Installation
I install FreeBSD via FTP, booting from a standard USB floppy. The MA IV TC has a number of onboard peripheral components which don't have external connectors. Specifically, it has a keyboard controller, but no PS/2 connector. Therefore, you must make sure to disable the atkbd0 device via the kernel configuration tool before proceeding with the install. The snd kernel module supports the on-board ESS 1869 sound chip. Unfortunately, the APM BIOS (at least the one that shipped with my MA IV TC) is buggy and causes a kernel panic. Hence, you must disable it. XFree86
XFree86 4.2.0 supports the C&T VGA chipset. (Earlier versions of XFree86 4 didn't work.) Use XFree86 -configure to generate a working XF86Config file. It's also possible to get the Gunze touch panel to work via an modified version of Alessandro Rubini's Gunzets package. Here is the tarball. |
